Focus Shift to Decision 2010

Now that the Alabama Legislature has adjourned for 2009, political focus has shifted toward the upcoming 2010 elections. Questions of who will run and for what come to the forefront, and pundits begin to hypothesize over the issues that will take center stage and, no doubt, become political fodder for the next 18 months.

For those who may be new to Alabama and the political process, the 2010 quadrennial election presents the largest slate of candidates to our ballot. Every four years, all constitutional officers, Congressional seats, three seats on the state Supreme Court, appellate judges, four state Board of Education seats, two seats on the Public Service Commission, all state senators, and all state representatives will be up for election – not to mention county and city officials.

This is truly a great year to become involved with Alabama politics! The volunteer and educational opportunities will be endless. Stay tuned to our blog for links to the political parties in Alabama, candidates’ websites, and information regarding when and where the candidates will be.

If you are not registered to vote in Alabama, we encourage you to visit the Secretary of State’s website and follow the instructions for submitting a voter registration form at http://www.sos.state.al.us/elections/GetRegForm.aspx.
